St. Thomas / St. John Car Ferry
Virginia’s Pride Daily car ferry across the channel, seven days a week.
Every day, both ways.
Virginia’s Pride runs between St. Thomas and St. John every day of the week, carrying cars, trucks and the people in them. We keep to the schedule, the crew knows the run, and the fare is the same whether you are a local heading to work or a visitor with a rental car.
Drive on at Red Hook or Cruz Bay, stay in your vehicle or step out on deck for the crossing, then drive off on the other side. Commercial cargo moves on the same boat, and we set up accounts for businesses running regular loads.

What the crossing is like
It is a short run across the channel, and an easy one. Here is what to expect when you drive down to the ramp.
A crew that knows the run
Our crew meets every vehicle at the ramp, waves you aboard and shows you exactly where to park. If it is your first time driving onto a barge, say so and someone will talk you through it. Nobody is left guessing.
Stay in the car or step out
Once we are under way you can sit in your vehicle or get out and stand on the deck. It is open air the whole way across, with the water on one side and the green hills on the other. Most people get out.
Sailings all day long
Thirteen crossings each way, from first light until the evening. If you miss one, the next is rarely far behind, and the return half of a round trip ticket is good for a later boat.
The vessel
Virginia’s Pride
Virginia’s Pride is a landing craft style barge, built for carrying vehicles rather than converted into it. The ramp comes down at the head of the boat, you drive straight on, and you drive straight off at the other side. No turning around, no backing down a narrow lane.
Cars, SUVs, pickups and full size trucks all cross on the same open deck. Motorcycles travel with us too. Because the deck is flat and open, we can take loads that will not fit on a passenger ferry, which is why a lot of the island’s building supplies, equipment and work trucks move this way.
Commercial and cargo
We carry commercial loads between St. Thomas and St. John every day. If your business runs regular trips, call the office on 340 205 6765 and we will set up an account so your drivers are not settling up at the ramp on every run.
